Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the more commonly performed procedures at our practice. When we perform liposuction, we usually do the procedure under a local anesthetic, called twilight. We find this is the safest way to give you the best results. Not to mention the fact that you won’t be able to feel or hear anything during the procedure. Liposuction is performed through several small incisions (about 4mm long), one for each area that you are considering contouring.

We do several special things during the liposuction procedure that gives you great results with little swelling or bruising. First, before every procedure, we give you medications to take to minimize the amount of bruising. Then, during the surgery, we start by injecting a TUMESCENT solution to help minimize blood loss and also help to “soften” the fat. After using this solution, we melt the fat using an ultrasonic liposuction system. This allows the fat to come out as a liquid, rather than solid which is safer and less harmful. We then, finally, remove the fat with a gentle reciprocating cannula. Using all of these special techniques combined will give you smooth results with minimal swelling, bruising, pain and downtime.

Smart Liposuction is done the exact same way with the addition of a laser assisted device to liquefy the fat instead of the tumescent solution.

What happens after the procedure?

After procedure, you will be able to return home. We generally do less than 5000 cc of liposuction at a time. This is for your safety, as the risk of complications increases significantly above this amount. This is still a fairly large amount for most people, and we will discuss with you during your consultation about how much we will be able to remove.

Most people feel minimal pain after the procedure and can usually return to work in a few days, and back to the gym in 2-4 weeks. The first few weeks, you may feel tired and have sensitivity of the skin. The bruising, if present, usually resolves in the first week or two.
